Aislinn the Bard

High she flies and free,
Friend to none but me.
This fierce wild bird of prey
I have made my friend this day.

I’m of the proud MacAran clan,
Alone I’ve traveled across this wild lonely land.
I’ve lived with peasants and traveled with kings,
Free as the birds who in the wild forest sing.

I’ve tamed the wild verrin hawk.
Horse and sentry-bird bow to my command.
Where sword and shield have failed,
The mind of horse and hawk prevailed.

A dark cloud of enchantment the city surrounds,
Where Carolin’s paxman a desperate prisoner lies.
Closed to the minds of men,
The enchantment defeated our might leroni.

But I fear nothing that walks or flies.
Alone I’ll go and search in the dead of night.
Through the mind of bird and beast
I may discern where our helpless prisoner lies.

A war was won that day.
Though no battle was fought, no blood was shed,
Communion with beasts saved the day,
And I faced dangers no man would ever dare face.

No queen and I, but still,
Hawkmistress to the reigning Hastur-lord.
Like the hawk – proud, wild, and free--
No man will ever put chains on me!

High she flies and free,
Friend to none but me.
This fierce wild bird of prey
I have made my friend this day.
